The problems of port infrastructure and equipment to ensure the opening up of the Central African Republic are acute. To this end, the Government has decided to place particular emphasis on river transport by seeking to provide cross-border cities with modern ports.
In the extreme southwest of the Central African Republic, the strategic city of Mongoumba located on the right bank of the Oubangui, 77 kilometers from Bangui by river, is at the crossroads of economic exchanges between the Central African Republic, the two Congo, the Cameroon, Chad and the two Sudan.
The development project of the port of Mongoumba consists mainly of carrying out the following works: the construction of a masterful of 100 ml wharf in concrete blocks distributed in 2 berths, the construction of an area bordering 2,000 m² quay, the construction of a goods storage area is 7,500 m2 and the construction of a warehouse of 576 m² in steel frame in the general goods storage area.
The expected results of the project include:
- stabilization of the prices of basic necessities,
- the development of traditional or new activities offering opportunities to the private sector,
- trade and supply of consumption centers with food products,
- the increase in the volume of trade with the countries of the region, in particular, CAR.
